Does Information Leave a Fossil?
…such was the debatable that popped into my head, as I was taking a walk through my thoughts on my way to work this morning. Said popping-in was due to me conclusion about what my impact would be on the world. My personal, one impact. How long, for example, will my blogs last? With technology’s exponentially increasing position for information storage, will everything I ever write, every contribution I ever authorize to the Internet (or its future equivalent), be but the tiniest fraction of a pin-prickle on the Global (and perhaps beyond) Database? And as such, will there never be any need for it to be destroyed, thus leaving it floating somewhere in the Infosphere for all at the same time? Or will it, at some point in the future, either through some random or purposeful act (and when I say “conscious,” I subsume the possibility of some sort of “artificial” consciousness), suffer some indisposed of destruction or degradation, but leave behind some affable of information “fossil,” for “techno-palaeontologists” of the days to “dig up” and ponder over the connection of such in indicating how people of the 21st century lived? Such was the description of this morning’s “thought-walk”…
